Tomorrow is the big game in football – the Superbowl. The two top teams square off to determine which is the best of the best, the NFL’s top team, and earn enormous bragging rights and even more enormous salaries. The game receives much hype, which increases in intensity right until the first pass is thrown. This is a game so big, that it even attracts those with little interest in the sport. Oddly enough though, not all the pregame publicity concerns matters related to the field or athletes themselves. Indeed, the hot topic that has continually gained in importance over the years is normally ignored – the commercials. In fact, I know a greater number of people that pay more attention to the commercials than the game.
Over the past few weeks, the various VW related content of the web revealed that VW, as it tries to meet its goal of becoming the world’s top auto manufacturer, will focus on growing its share of the U.S. market. As part of this endeavor the company plans to capitalize on it’s hugely popular Star Wars commercial aired several years ago during the Superbowl. Last week, the commercial made its official web debut, so I thought I would post it here, along with the Stars Wars commercial (a favorite of mine). Does it warrant all the hype and a spot in the big game?
